Comeback kids Sweep again.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the home half of the 8th inning the Sox did what they have been doing for years now. After a beautiful diving catch in the top of the inning by Baldelli in center, the Sox led off the bottom of the 8th with a Nick Green single and a 10 pitch walk by Pedroia. Drew and Bay each singled and Lowell pushed the go ahead run across with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. Papelbon recorded his 16th save of the season to complete the series sweep, and the Sox 8th win in 8 games against the Yankees on the season.

Things are looking good in Redsox nation lately. Ortiz has been showing glimpses of his former self, leaving the yard for the 2nd time in the last 3 against the Yanks and climbing above the Mendoza line; Penny pitched 6 strong innings of shutout ball; and the boys are heading to Philly with a 2 game lead over New York.

As a long time Redsox fan, well… as long as a 22 year old can be a Sox fan, there are a few things that bring me great joy: Boston above New York in the standings, high paid Yankees new comers wasting strong outings (Sabathia), the Yankees blowing late inning leads (seems like every game), and the Fenway PA blasting Dirty Water at the end of a night. The only thing that could have made this series better would have been to see Rivera blow a save and get a loss.

The Sox are heading to Philadelphia for a 3 game set that is slated to see Lester (5-5, 5.09) vs. Blanton (4-3, 5.46), Dice-K (1-4, 7.33) vs. Bastardo (2-0, 2.45), and Beckett (7-2, 3.77) vs. Happ (4-0, 2.98). If Lester can pitch like he did against Texas, hopefully the faithful will wake up after sleeping though another Dice-K outing in time to see Beckett collect his 8th win on the season.
