Now we can rest, seeing as Manny signed his contract with the Dodgers. He can play in relative obscurity to the baseball world, not that Manny will ever be
obscure, but as far as how it impacts the baseball world ,it is insignificant. Manny is out there on the left coast playing for a team that has a wonderful lineup but no chance at post season (in my opinion). They dont have one pitcher I can name other than Billingsley. The Dodgers lost alot of pitching over the winter and I still think Arizona is the class of the West.
Torre will put up with Manny's shennanigans and the Dodgers will have little impact on the standings ,but will probably get a few Manny highlights on Baseball tonight with his prodigious home runs and poor fielding. He will have his share of sound bites and he will continue to be Manny. The real action will be in the AL East and the Phillies, Mets, D-backs, Indians and the usual suspects will keep us looking at the standings but the Dodgers, who cares, they dont have the pitching horses to be a bother.
Manny didnt get his gazillion dollars like he thought, and my nightmare of him playing with the hated Yankees died months ago as they weren't interested, like most of organized baseball. Other than Russell Martin and Casey Blake ,who are good ballplayers ,LA doesnt have the star power to get the butts in the seats so the Dodgers had to have him around to bring that star power and charisma that is badly needed to a franchise lacking in talent, at least for this year. So go ahead Manny, be yourself out there in LA-LA land, no one will notice this fall when you and your ballclub are sitting at home watching the playoffs. We miss you a little but the antics are enough to say, "It was good while it lasted."
