Let The Games Begin (Again)

Random Questions For The Spring
It is a ritual. Every year the first sign of spring is the games, the meaningless exhibition games. What I like to refer to as the rubber doll games. You know rubber doll? It is the next best thing to the real thing but fake nevertheless.
Most people I know are not thinking about the state of Papi's wrist or JD's back, or if an adequate set up man or two can be found for "Wild Thing Dancing Fool Papelbon. My friends dont want to know if Beckett can rebound from a so so year, or if Masterson will become a starter or languish in the pen. The people where I work dont wonder if Rocco can play more than two or three games in a row and if his new diagnosis will fix the issue. These are some of the questions of a fanatic Sox fan. My only hard decision today is if I should watch the game on MLB network or listen to Joe C on the radio and which jersey to put on for the first game. It is the first day of what Cupcake says is her season of being a Sox widow.
To most of the world, this is so trivial but only 24 will emerge to represent their club in the quest for baseball supremacy. Some young men will don the Red Sox uniform for the first time and others will have to wait it out down on the farm.
Most of the nation does not care if Saito is going to comeback from elbow problems or if Dustin will continue his torrid pace from last year, or if Youk will keep his Fu all year. Most of my friends don't know who Julio Lugo or Jed Lowrie are let alone have an opinion on who will win the shortstop battle. We know Jacko can field but can he set the table for the big hitters adequately with a decent average, will that old Brave return in June to lead us to the promised land once again.
To the rest of the world this is insignificant as the struggle to make ends meet, make important decisions like when they get married or when to divorce or how will they afford food this month. To the "Nation" member all those things are taken in the context of the important thing in life. What time is the game on tonight?
